ARLINGTON, Va., April 5 -Army General John P. Abizaid will headline an AFEI conference on warfighting technology in St. Petersburg, Fla., on May 9 and 10, 2006. The conference, "Fulfilling the Warfighter's Vision," will address the importance of networks and information management to current military operations.
Abizaid will address concerns about our ability to deliver real-time and immediate information to forces in theater. This is a critical subject for today's forces in the global war on terror, who face highly-networked enemies whose patience, technology and tactics make them a difficult opponent for traditional doctrine and forces.
Abizaid is the commanding general of U.S. Central Command, an area that covers 27 countries in a crucial part of the world including Iraq, Afghanistan and the Horn of Africa.
Colonel Mant Hawkins, USMC, CENTCOM Commanders Advisory Group, will lead a panel of officers with very recent field experience in Iraq to discuss what joint forces need from networks and technology in tactical situations.
Other speakers include the Honorable Paul Brinkley, Under Secretary of Defense for Business Transformation; General Paul Kern, USA (ret.) and former Commander of the Army Materiel Command; Honorable John Stenbit, former Assistant Secretary of Defense for C3I.
