PLANO, Texas, Oct. 20 -Safety-Kleen(R) Systems, Inc., announced today it has been awarded a multi-year exclusive contract by the United States Postal Service (USPS) to provide hazardous and regulated waste management solutions.
Under this national agreement, the first of its kind, Safety-Kleen will be the sole authorized national company providing the following services:
* Oil collection and re-refining for more than 1.5 million gallons of
motor oil;
* Parts cleaning and solvent disposal services;
* Containerized waste management, including oil filter recycling and
disposal of absorbent materials; and,
* Vacuum services for separators, drains and trenches.
Safety-Kleen will service approximately 750 postal facilities that generate hazardous and other regulated wastes. These locations support more than 37,000 individual offices across the United States. The U.S. Postal Service is the third-largest employer in the US (after the Defense Department and Wal-Mart) and operates the largest civilian vehicle fleet in the world. More than 200,000 postal trucks and vans travel one billion miles annually.
According to Mike Fraser, Safety-Kleen vice president of National Accounts and International Sales, the USPS will receive safe and consistent waste management services by consolidating with Safety-Kleen, while also reducing costs and improving operational standards.
"Safety-Kleen has excellent controls, tracking and systems, and will provide superior customer service and faster response rates for the USPS," Fraser said. "We're also ISO 14001 certified, which will give the postal service greater confidence in the areas of regulatory compliance and environmental stewardship."
Fraser also noted that the USPS contract is evidence that, in today's market, environmental services have evolved from simple collection and processing to more advanced solutions requiring multiple disposal technologies and stringent compliance activities.
"We are honored to be the exclusive provider of these services to the USPS, and feel this appointment validates our commitment to quality solutions through environmentally-sound processes," Fraser said.
