BOSTON, Feb. 18 /-USNewswire/ -- The John E. and Jeanne T. Hughes Charitable Foundation awarded Bunker Hill Community College a $7,500 grant to provide financial support for the second year of the Community Center for Entrepreneurship (CCE). The College launched the Center a year ago, with a $5,000 grant from a Hughes partner, the Coleman Foundation.

"I am thrilled that we have continued funding for our Community Center for Entrepreneurship," said Bogusia J. Wojciechowska, BHCC Dean of Professional Studies, who spearheaded the College's creation of the CCE. "The foundation was particularly impressed with the relationships the CCE is building with the local business community, and with the fact that the CCE has accomplished all of the goals we established a year ago."

The Hughes grant recognizes the CCE's work over the past year, particularly its role in founding The Entrepreneurship Consortium with Boston University, Babson College, Harvard University, Simmons College, Northeastern University and Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

The Center's other activities over the past year have included: hosting meetings with local business leaders to respond to the community's training needs, and organizing a well-attended series of events built around the theme of "developing entrepreneurship skills" (offering workshops and a film series, and bringing in business journalists from local media such as The Boston Globe). The aim of all of these activities is to help students and local business owners develop entrepreneurship skills.

"In this competitive economy, business owners and entrepreneurs require access to new ideas and training if their enterprises are to succeed. This new Community Center for Entrepreneurship expands BHCC's commitment to that work," said Wojciechowska.

The CCE has also received funds from The Carl D. Perkins Career and Technical Education Act of 2006 and The Boston Advanced Technological Education Connections (BATEC), a regional system of technical education for workforce development.
