NEW YORK, Oct. 23 // -- The Center for Communication Annual
Luncheon - a fun and entertaining toast/roast - honors BET Chairman and
CEO, Debra L. Lee, at the Grand Ballroom of The Pierre Hotel, 61st St., and
Fifth Ave, NYC (enter on 61st St.) Reception starts at 11:30am; event ends
promptly at 2pm. Each Year, Center for Communication presents the Frank
Stanton Communications Award to an outstanding leader in the media
industry. Under Ms. Lee's leadership, BET Networks has expanded beyond its
image as a music-oriented network to become the preeminent brand in
African-American media, now available in over eighty million homes around
the world. Joining her in the celebration is Dick Parsons, acting as lead
toaster/roaster. Luncheon Committee Co-Chairs include Sir Howard Stringer,
Leslie Moonves, Ronald Perelman, Susan Whiting, David Barrett, Ken
Chenault, Richard Plepler, Peter Chernin, Brad Grey, Judy McGrath,
Katherine Oliver and David Zaslav. The event supports the Center for
Communication an educational forum that prepares college students for
careers in media.
Founded in 1980 by former president of CBS, the late Dr. Frank Stanton,
the Center for Communication bridges the gap between aspiring media
professionals and the industry through its annual program of 50 FREE
seminars and workshops for college students, featuring outstanding leaders
in all fields of the industry. Former Center honorees include Peter
Chernin, Bob Wright, Richard Parsons, Arthur Ochs Sulzberger, Katharine
Graham, Michael Bloomberg and Williams S. Paley.
