SAN FRANCISCO, Jan. 15 /-/ -- On2 Technologies, Inc., (Amex: ONT), a leader in video compression solutions, announced today Flix Publisher 2.0 for Mac at Macworld Conference and Expo 2008 in San Francisco. Flix Publisher is a popular browser based video encoding and publishing solution for Adobe(R) Flash(R) Player 8 and 9, giving enterprises and web video service providers the ability to easily allow video encoding and publishing through a browser based interface.
"Since Flix Publisher was introduced, it has become the foundation for some revolutionary web video services and large scale enterprise video applications," said Mike Savello, SVP for Flash Video business at On2 Technologies. "By extending the Publisher franchise to Mac, we are bringing Publisher to users who are generally known to be passionate about video and digital media. Publisher assures quality, workflow efficiency, and cost savings for service providers, and requires no expertise on the part of users to publish video to a website -- be that for social networking, enterprise or other applications."
On2 Flix Publisher is a fully customizable software development kit licensed to video websites. It can be branded by the website owner and integrated directly into their pages, giving users a seamless branded experience in encoding, previewing or submitting videos.
Flix Publisher empowers users to automatically encode and publish videos to web sites using only their web browser with simple drag and drop capabilities. Flix Publisher also allows users to capture live videos from any camera attached to their computer. Videos are encoded within the browser on a user's desktop in On2 VP6 for Flash format, the video format licensed by Adobe from On2 for Adobe Flash Player 8 and 9. With this announcement, Flix Publisher is now compatible with Safari on Mac.
For web site operators, Flix Publisher enables incredible cost savings within the video publishing workflow. All videos are encoded to site-defined requirements and uploaded to the site servers, ready for immediate publishing.
Using Flix Publisher, sites are able to control their expenditures on video transcoding servers, upload bandwidth, and storage space, resulting in tremendous cost savings, both in infrastructure and operations, which are among the largest operating cost elements for video web sites.
On2 Flix Publisher is currently deployed with a number of customers, including Justin.tv, Unilever, Cox Newspapers, and others. Flix Publisher for Mac started shipping in Q1 2008. On2 will demonstrate Flix Publisher for Mac at its booth (# W-4242) at Macworld Conference and Expo 2008 being held at the Moscone Center in San Francisco, January 15-18, 2008.
